Under the lordship of Jesus Christ, who is the head of this church, Hope Christian Church is governed by a Board of Elders (the “Elder Team”). They have the authority to organize, guide, and direct all church activities in accordance with the teaching of the Bible, the Statement of Faith, the Mission Statement of the church, and the By-Laws.
They serve as models of Christian maturity; are responsible for the equipping of the members of this church; pray diligently for the church and its members; ensure that Scripture is taught in accordance with sound doctrine; are responsible for the management of the church as a father manages his household and the guidance of the church as a shepherd leads his flock; and are charged to lead by being servants to, not lords over, the members of the church.
We believe Scripture always refers to Elders in the plural. Accordingly, this church shall always have a plurality of men serving on the Elder Team. There are currently six Elders of Hope Christian Church, each of whom has focused areas of responsibility.
- Michael Bradford has served as an elder since November 2010. Michael is part of the team that teaches Adult Sunday School. He has a heart for evangelism and teaching. Michael may be reached at 781-944-2084 or by email at mjcbradford@comcast.net
- David Chamberlain has served as an Elder since the church started in 1993. Among his roles are those that pertain to the administration of the church’s legal requirements. David may be reached at 781-729-3068 or by email at drchamberlainjr@verizon.net.
- Todd Cravens has been an Elder since June 2008, and he currently serves on staff as the Teaching Elder for the church. Todd moved from Pennsylvania with his family at the end of May 2008. He has responsibility for all teaching curriculum in the church and preaches at Sunday services. Todd may be reached at 781-935-3346 or by email at todd@hopechristianchurch.org.
- Doug Simpson has been an Elder since 2005, and his current focus is missions and compassion ministry. Doug may be reached at 978-670-0131 or by e-mail at dasimps@alum.mit.edu.
- Iain Whitfield has been an Elder since 2001, and he currently serves on staff as the Community Life Elder for the church. Iain is also the worship leader for the church and has a heart for pastoral care, fellowship and prayer. He may be reached at 781-863-9581 or by email at iain@hopechristianchurch.org.
- Andy Mills served as an Elder since the church started in 1993. In 2011 he was released from his eldership role in order to serve the Lord in four areas: The Theology of Work Project, The King’s College, among Christian businessmen and leaders in Uganda and continued spiritual mentoring of individuals. We commissioned him as a “sent one” or “ambassador” of the church to serve in these roles and others that the Lord may lead him into.
Other staff members are Herb Wiebe, our Director of Youth & Children’s Ministry, and Patty Flemming is our Administrative Assistant.
